What is the connection between Easter and Bunny?

Eggs and Bunny are ancient symbols of fertility and rebirth. As Easter also marks the beginning stages of a fresh spring season, over time Easter and Bunny started getting closely associated.

As per historical data, hares were believed to be hermaphrodites, and hence the belief that hares could reproduce without losing virginity. This belief, in turn, led church leaders at that time to connect hares to virgin Mary.

Coming back to the connection between Bunnies and Fertility, this observation has been scientifically and systematically studied since then.

Bunnies are one of the rare animals that could get pregnant within days after giving birth. Each pregnancy cycle usually lasts for 31 days, and could produce anywhere between 1-12 babies each time of pregnancy.

For that matter, even superfetation, which is getting pregnant again during pregnancy appears to be common.

Another interesting fact is that they become sexually active even after 3-4 months old.

Bunnies are also known to adapt to environment, and increase their reproducing time period when moved from Europe to Australia. In NA and Europe, Hares mating period usually starts in March, and hence, there is even a phrase, "Mad as a March Hare".
